Goldfinch Cottage

Goldfinch Cottage is a Grade 2 Listed cottage near Winchester that has been in the ownership of just two families in the last 400 years. At its core is a medieval hall house that has been extended and adapted in multiple phases over the years. The house is currently split between the mother and sons families. Having retired to the family home, half the house required an extension to provide a decent family kitchen and to make sense of the many small cellular spaces.

The final design resolution was to create a modest infill extension on the side of the house with a lean-to slate roof. An oak framed structure was used to create a clear span and to partially replicate the existing oak framed structure.
