Colebrook Street

St John’s Winchester Charity is a long standing almshouse charity which provides affordable accommodation to some 100 older people on four sites in the centre of Winchester.

The scheme has 12 new apartments and 3 in an existing Listed Building, designed with the principles of maximising space, light, views, ventilation and accessibility with the intention of promoting wellbeing. Privacy and security will be balanced with access to roof terraces and communal garden spaces with front doors accessed via external sheltered galleries. The Colebrook stream and historic below ground features have been carefully considered in the site layout of the proposal.

The apartments are Designed to Lifetime Homes, HCA and HAPPI standards and are planned for future adaptations to suit the residents’ care needs including the retro fitting of ceiling mounted hoists.
