St Michael's Lyndhurst

This Grade I Listed church was designed by Victorian Architect, W White between 1858-68 with polychromatic brickwork and rich interior carvings. The interior features master pieces by Pre-Raphaelite artists including stained-glass by E Burne-Jones, a fresco by Lord Leighton and south transept glass William Morris & Co.

It had limited amenities for wider use. Careful reordering and restoration, based on thorough research and understanding of the building,  is on going in this church which included the restoration of the angel sculptures by the original firm that carved them. Work also included the integration of lights to enhance the setting of the frescos and angels. Alice Liddell, resident and inspiration for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is buried here.
