St John’s Winchester Charity is a long standing almshouse charity which provides affordable accommodation to some 100 older people on four sites in the centre of Winchester.

This project achieves 16 affordable alms houses in the centre of Winchester. We worked closely with the Charity to develop a strategy for their existing alms houses and the development of available sites for new elderly care flats.

The fundamental strength of the St John’s Winchester Charity ethos is that of enabling residents to maintain their sense of independence and dignity with the flexibility to evolve the level of care provided by the Charity.

This complex site on the banks of the River Itchen in the city centre has been developed by working with other parties including Winchester City Council, the Environment Agency, archaeologists, Winchester City Trust and other Stakeholders.

The scheme is designed to Lifetime Homes, HAPPI and HCA standards.
